It’s Valentine’s Day, let’s indulge!
Who doesn’t love chocolate? For that matter, who doesn’t love brownies with just a drop of rich, creamy frosting like your grandma used to make? Surprise the one(s) you love with this dessert from the heart!
I went to Coast Hardware–one of my favorite stores in town–to get a heart shaped cookie cutter and came out with a heart shaped brownie pan, three heart shaped cookie cutters, two heart-covered tea towels and the red heart doilies you see in the picture. You know what they say, presentation is everything.
Okay, I admit it, Better Crocker helped with this batch–but you can make your favorite recipe or get a little help from Betty–I won’t tell. But the frosting is from scratch–and really good.
I sprayed Pam on the bottom of the pan and let them cool for an hour before removing them. I used a sharp knife to gently cut around the shape and they came out easily.
FROSTING
(From Food.com)
- 3 TBS butter
- 1 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
- 2 TBS milk
- 2 TBS cocoa
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Candy hearts to decorate
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan.
- Add cocoa and remove from heat.
- Stir in milk.
- Add powdered sugar and vanilla.
- Stir until smooth.
Put a dollop on each brownie and top with a candy heart. Arrange them on a red heart doily and no one will know you had a little help with the batter.
However you like your brownies–plain, frosted or with ice cream–Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to indulge–that is, after you’re done licking the bowl!
Enjoy!
