The strawberry thief has been identified!
I have to thank Toby, the dog next door, for solving the mystery.

Detective Toby |
This shouldn’t have surprised me. Last summer Toby solved another mystery when he caught the raccoon that was eating his Kibbles and Bits..and my tomatoes.
There’s nothing worse than spotting a big red ripe tomato that you’re planning on picking the next day only to find its “remains” in the morning. Overnight that raccoon would scoop out the inside of the tomato and leave the shell behind. And he didn’t even bother to cover up his footprints!
It turns out snails were also in on the strawberry heist and of course, they leave no footprints–only a trail of slime.
But I’m not giving up. So far the slugs and snails are only eating the leaves. I still might get two strawberries out of the deal.

The perp was not furry at all, as I predicted! I should have known. Slow and steady wins the race – and eats all the strawberries.
