Help! I’m living my own little Caine Mutiny!
My strawberries are under attack! Here’s the “before” photo…before something decided to turn my strawberries into their smorgasbord.
And here’s what they look like now. I’m so frustrated. Something is eating all the leaves.
Again…a before…and…
…sadly, that same plant today.
And one final pitiful parting shot.
I’ve been playing detective trying to figure out what is eating the leaves. From what I’ve read it could be birds, squirrels or deer. The majority of articles I’ve read say deer are the guilty ones, but could deer really jump over the 6 foot high fence that surrounds my front deck?
If you have any suggestions or ideas for me, please share. And if I get any more strawberries I’ll make you a delicious tart!

could be deer, but i'm betting on squirrels. they are wreaking havoc on my garden, too, eating my lettuces and spinach. the varmints ate my tomatoes last year. they are really sneaky and really fast.
Maggi- Argh. The precious strawberries! A farmer friend told me, "Organic or not, everything that moves wants a strawberry." I'm thinking they need to be picked early… ?
Snails and/or slugs at night would be my guess. You might go out at night with a flashlight and catch them at it. Sometimes when plants are stressed, they are more vulnerable to chewing insects.Bring a spray bottle filled with 1/4 comon household ammonia-3/4 water.Spray them and watch with glee as they melt before your eyes.Its even better than watching the wicked witch of the west disappear at the climax of Wizard Of Oz…
